Folio is on a mission to make getting paid the easiest part of running a studio.
Folio was founded in 2020 by Priya Nadkarni and Tom Reyes, who ran a six-person design studio in Austin, Texas. They loved the work and dreaded the billing: spreadsheets for invoices, a separate tool for payments, and a calendar full of reminders to chase late clients. So they built Folio — one place to invoice, collect, and track — and opened it up to other studios who were juggling the same mess.
Today Folio is used by more than 12,000 independent studios and freelancers across 40 countries, who have invoiced over $1.4 billion through the platform. We're a remote-first team of 34, still independently owned, and still building the tool we wished we'd had.
Getting paid shouldn't take a finance degree. Software should disappear into your day. And the people who do great creative work deserve tools that respect their time. That's the whole idea.
